Software fixes are distributed in the form of service packs. The service pack CD-ROM contains fixes for all configurations and products available at the time it is built. Each service pack supersedes the previous ones and may be installed on top of the released level or on top of a previous service pack. No individual corrections are delivered in between two service packs. Service packs are made available on a regular basis. Delivery is synchronized for Windows and UNIX platforms.

or, given that the software is distributed on several CDs ( 1, 2 ...), copy the contents of each CD into a separate folder for each CD, making sure that the name of each folder corresponds to the CD number ( 1, 2 ...) etc.

-bc: installs in batch mode and automatically commits the service pack
-u: specifies the unload directory (by default, /usr/DassaultSystemes/B20)
-v: verbose mode

CATIA version 5 R16 service pack 2 installation requires four CDs in total. Two CDs for base CATIA version 5 R16 and two CDs for service pack 2. During the installation on CATIA version 5 R16 service pack 2 CD #2, the installation would hang and stop.
Do you need a hot fix to be installed for your CATIA to work?Sometimes there are a few critical problems within the CATIA software. A hot fix is a software maintenance package containing fixes for a small number of these issues. A hot fix can be made to address customer issues more quickly than waiting for the next service pack which has a scheduled release. A hot fix can be used to prevent simple and more complex issues found within the software. When a fix is requested it has to be first accepted and approved by Dassault Systèmes before being delivered to the customer. One of the most common hot fixes that customers require is hot fix 96 for R19, this hot fix was made to allow CATIA R19 to use a different type of license however there are many other hot fixes that can be installed which resolve different issues within the program.
We recommend that you contact your Microsoft Dynamics Partner beforeinstalling service packs or hot fixes. It is important to verify thatyour environment is compatible with the service pack(s) or hotfix(es)being installed. A service pack or hot fix may cause interoperabilityissues with customizations, and third-party products that work with yourMicrosoft Dynamics solution.
After installing a service pack, you may want to spend some time using the service pack for validation purposes, before making it officially available to your end users. "Committing" a service pack means applying the service pack to your installation, so that it becomes the official working level. This deletes the previous level, thereby saving disk space.
After spending some time using the service pack for validation purposes, you may find that the service pack is not suitable. If this is the case, you can "roll back" the service pack: rolling back a service pack uninstalls the service pack, and restores the software level to the level prior to installing the service pack.
SOLIDWORKS service packs are service patches that append fixes/new functionality to your software. Each yearly installment of SOLIDWORKS begins at SP0.0. Historically, each yearly release sees about five or more additional services packs after the first.
If your company is using SOLIDWORKS PDM, there may be other considerations to consider. In SOLIDWORKS 2017, PDM Standard and PDM Professional can be on separate service packs of the same major version. For example, if your vault is version 2017 SP0.0, you can connect to it with a client machine installed at version 2017 SP1.0.
